Maurice Delaistier Mario Lonardini Karine Saporta’s wholly original work is a nostalgic fantasy about childhood, inspired by Russian films, music and literature and exploring the themes of love, exile, birth and death. Karine Saporta is one of the most dynamic forces on the European dance scene today and she re-worked this piece specially for video, using to full effect the cutting and framing possibilities afforded by the medium. Working with director Luc Alavoine, she also incorporated black and white film clips into the screen version to add an extra dimension to her complex and poetic evocation of the Russian soul. Inspired by Saporta’s profound sense of her own Russian ancestry and using imagery that pervades our universal sensibility, the fragmented sequences, like dimly-perceived dreams, summon up an intense mood of displacement, loss and melancholy. The score by Jean-Marc Zelwer is carried in part by the haunting voice of singer Sophie Boulin who appears with the dancers. Directed by Luc Alavoine download information
