synopsis
“Sourire à la vie et, dans un éclat de rire, aimer…” Jacques Garnier
A hymn to love, life and death, Aunis is one of the most beautiful pieces of choreography created by Jacques Garnier (1940-89), a leading figure on the French modern dance scene for many years. This special television adaptation of Aunis was shot on location on a vast, windswept, deserted beach, with the relentless waves of the Atlantic Ocean breaking in white eddies of foam on the sand, and the wind ripping through the coarse grass that clings tenaciously to the dunes. The light and cloud formations change constantly and the sense of exhilaration, joie de vivre and abandonment the dancers are able to express in this striking setting is truly intoxicating. Maurice Pacher’s original accordion music is played in situ by the composer himself and Gérard Baraton. Aunis is danced by Kader Belarbi, Wilfried Romoli, and Jean Claude Ciappara. download information
