BEWTH in SHARP The medium of video has liberated dance from the theatre and opened up exciting new opportunities. The camera itself can be an active participant in what is presented on screen and Sharp is a striking example of what can be achieved when dancers and film-makers collaborate. Performed by BEWTH, this piece links movement and architecture in a free-flowing sequence of striking visual images. The location is a modern building in Amersfoort, Holland, designed by Abel Cahen, normally home to a government department. There are vast expanses of glass, elegant geometric lines and the floor of the central atrium is a bold work of art in black and white marble. The dancers and actors take over the space and use their presence to make us see the building in a new way. The cameras play their part by capturing surprising dislocations of perspective – performers walk up walls, defy gravity, flip over, are viewed from unusual angles and vertiginous heights. Specially-composed music by Leonard van Goudoever adds yet another evocative layer to Sharp. download information
