Without question, the star of this powerful film is water. A spectacular blend of performance, rock video, fairy tale and horror movie, North West Waltz is a surreal myth set against the backdrop of an impending flood. It is based on a sensational play by one of Holland's foremost theatre groups, Dogtroep, and like the play, the television film is staged in the open air dock of a deserted Amsterdam shipyard – a setting which magically transforms into a post apocalyptic water world.

This theatrical extravaganza, presented in an intensely cinematic manner, blurs the boundaries between reality and fantasy. The lavish art direction, bizarre costume and make up design and stunning special effects combine to create an unforgettable visual feast.
