synopsisBrassbones Fredrik Högberg’s hilarious musical send-up of a spaghetti Western, based on his own compositions, features three of the world’s top brass soloists in the trombone-slinging story of outlaw Kit Bones – the fastest slide in the West. With trumpeters Håkan Hardenberger and Ole Edvard Antonsen and trombonist Christian Lindberg in a Wild West where cowboys come armed with brass instruments not guns, it is ’bone fights that count, with glissando salvos deciding shoot-outs. Play ’em high, not hang ’em high, is the order of the day. Hard men with lacerated brass instruments inhabit the saloons and there’s always a loose-living ‘gal’ to hand a spare trombone to a guy when he’s in real trouble. In the one-horse town of T-Bone Gulch, Bones (Lindberg) and his partner Hawk Hardon (Hardenberger) come up against Sheriff Bailadorno (Bylund). Whose ’bone playing will win the day when it comes to the showdown? Using all the clichés of a classic Western, peppered for good measure with some videogame animation, Brassbones is a highly entertaining take on both music and movies – there’s even The Ballad of Kit Bones, sung barber-shop style. Basing themselves on stars such as Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef, the musicians slip easily into their stereotypes and obviously enjoy every minute of their time as cowboys. Brassbones was shot on location in Almería, Spain, on the same set used by Sergio Leone for A Fistful of Dollars and The Good, The Bad and The Ugly.
