synopsisThe Creation From the Herkulessaal in Munich, Sir Georg Solti conducts the Bavarian Radio Symphony Chorus and Orchestra in a performance of Haydn’s great oratorio. The story of The Creation forms the content of the work, told by three Archangels. The highly-acclaimed soprano Ruth Ziesak sings Gabriel, with tenor Herbert Lippert as Uriel and bass Reinhard Hagen as Raphael. The last musical climax of the work, a magnificent duet depicting the mutual love of the first human beings, is sung by baritone Anton Scharinger (Adam) and Ruth Ziesak (Eve). Composed late in his life and first performed in Vienna in 1798, The Creation, together with the oratorio The Seasons, put the final touches to Haydn’s fame. The material lay particularly close to his heart. It set fire to his imagination and reflects his simple devotion: “Never was I so pious as when I was composing this work; I knelt down daily and prayed God to strengthen me for it.” Ruth Ziesak Gabriel/Eva – Soprano Herbert Lippert Uriel – Tenor Anton Scharinger Adam – Baritone Reinhard Hagen Raphael – Bass The Bavarian Radio Symphony Chorus and Orchestra Conducted by Sir Georg Solti dvd information
